Personal statement

Dr. Ruzegea is an Academic Librarian and the Director- General of Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) since April 2021, a former Library Director (2018-2020) and faculty librarian (2007-2021) at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS. Following her present roles, she is engaging as an honorary lecturer contributing to the Directorate of Library Services at MUHAS through teaching, training and collaborative research. She holds a PhD in Library and information Science, MA in Information Studies and BA with Education majoring Literature and Languages.

Her career journey started in 2000 when she was employed by the Tanzania’s Ministry of Education as a high school language teacher at Benjamin Mkapa High School in Dar es Salaam. She later joined TLSB in 2004 as a Tutor Librarian at the School of Library Archive and Documentation Studies (SLADS) in Bagamoyo, Coast Region in Tanzania. She worked with SLADS for 3 years before she joined MUHAS in 2007. She has over 15 years of experience in the management, administration, leadership, teaching, training and research. Her areas of interest include library and information management health information, information resources sharing and use, open data and data analytics. She conducts lectures in Information and Learning Technologies and Communication Skills courses to first year students and trains postgraduate students in E-resource Searching, Reference Management, Scientific Writing and Information Literacy and Citation, and Evidence Based Practice (EBP) - Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis and on Open Data and Open Access issues. Dr. Ruzegea has been involved several research activities in her field. She was a Principal Investigator (PI) of the Library ICT Cluster for the MUHAS Sida funded project. (Nov 2018 - March 2020), PI for the project titled “The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (TEEAL) in Tanzania and trainer for TEEAL Workshops” from 2014 until 2016, which was funded by the Bill and Mellinda Gate Foundation. She became the Country Officer for Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa (ITOCA) with regards to TEEAL and reached out to train (ToT) in 19 Tanzanian institutions including Universities and Agricultural Research Institutions on the use of TEEL and Research4Life E-resources. In 2018 she won the MLA/Elsevier Research4life Grants and became PI for her project titled “Developing Research4Life Interactive Online Training Videos and Open Learning Platform (OLP) to enhance Research, Teaching-Leaning Experience in Higher Learning Insitutions”. She wrote papers on health information seeking behaviour, use of pregnancy health information, usability of OPAC, use of e-resources in higher learning institutions and was a co-author in systematic review paper on the effectiveness of Neem plant for prevention and treatment of human Malaria. She attended: International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Conference in Norway (2005), attended exchange programs for Library capacity building programs (in 2008 and 2018) in Sweden at Karolinska Institutet, attended Library internship programme at Gobabeb Training and Research Center for SADC region, in Namibia (2011-2012). Dr. Ruzegea is member of Tanzania Library Association (TLA) and a Research4Life blogger.
