There are four categories of Libraries being managed by TLSB namely National Central Library, Regional Libraries, District Libraries and Ward Libraries
TLSB is currently in a plan to improve its library services by developing, establishing, and managing the National Digital Library in collaboration with the e-Government Authority (eGA).
So far, TLSB expects to manage the project of renovating its Headquarters building in Dar-es-Salaam as well as building two new libraries that will be located in Chato District and Arusha Region.

In 1975, the Act was amended and a new Act of Parliament No. 6 of 1975 was formed which led to the name of the Institute changing from Tanganyika Library Services Board to Tanzania Library Services Board.
